New Recording Artist Funding - Overview
Objective
To find new artists and new songs that will achieve commercial radio airplay.
To assist new artists in building a track record at commercial radio.
Criteria
To be eligible for New Recording Artist funding, the submitted song must exhibit potential for commercial radio airplay.
You may apply with only one song per round.
The group/individual cannot apply for music video funding, or inclusion on a Kiwi Hit Disc for the same song at the same time. You can receive a maximum of two grants per group/individual.
New Recording Artist funding is available only for the recording costs of a radio single and the accompanying video.
Description
NZ On Air offers funding to help new bands/artists with the costs of recording a song for radio. The funding of $10,000 per project, comprises of $5,000 to produce a radio single and an additional (conditional) $5,000 to help create a music video. The budget for this financial year is $200,000 - up to 20 projects at $10,000 apiece. For more info, or to ask a question - check out our FAQs page.
Application
Register in the accounts section and apply online. You can fill in all the artist details and upload the song to the site.
Otherwise complete the one-page application form. Provide a CD copy of a demo, marking the disc clearly with the name of the song and the artist.
Apply with only one song - the song that will be pitched to commercial radio.
Just make sure you submit your application by 5pm on the relevant closing date.
