JUNE '08 ALBUM DECISIONS

NZ On Air has announced funding for six more album recording and marketing projects - new albums by Cobra Khan, PNC, The Black Seeds, Ill Semantics, Streetwise Scarlet and Gasoline Cowboy.  That brings to 25 the number of Phase Four Albums funded in the 2007/2008 year (to 30 June).

The full 2007/2008 NZ On Air Phase Four Album portfolio is as follows - Anika Moa; Autozamm; Boh Runga; Cut Off Your Hands; Die! Die! Die!; Goodnight Nurse; Luke Thompson; Salmonella Dub; The Electric Confectionaires; Atlas; Dimmer; Goldenhorse; 5Star Fallout; James Reid (the feelers); Nesian Mystik; Shapeshifter; Solstate; Tha Feelstyle; The Veils; Cobra Khan; PNC; Ill Semantics; The Black Seeds; Streetwise Scarlet; and Gasoline Cowboy.

Since 2000, when the Phase Four Album scheme was launched, we have funded 141 albums, 99 of which have been released and the rest are in production.

The Phase Four Album scheme is the engine room of the local content campaign on radio.  We fund albums as a source of radio singles and hopefully, those radio singles become the radio hits that drive the local content campaign.  The 99 albums on release have delivered 328 radio singles so far, 95% of which have gone on to be radio hits (meaning that they have charted in the RadioScope NZ Airplay Top 40 chart).
