B.NET BOOST

NZ On Air has provided funding for the New Zealand music work of the student radio network (currently known as the b.net) since 1991. The funding is mandated by the second of the New Zealand music objectives in the Statement of Intent – ‘To ensure that there are opportunities on radio to promote difference and diversity in New Zealand music.’ In the June funding round we were pleased to announce a significant increase in NZ On Air funding for the five current b.net stations – 95bFM in Auckland; Radio Control in Palmerston North; Radio Active in Wellington; RDU 98.5FM in Christchurch; and Radio One in Dunedin for the 2008/2009 year. This was the first increase in several years, and well deserved as the stations of the b.net continue to proudly play and nurture NZ music at a grassroots level, and fulfil the “difference and diversity” objective.
