JUNE '09 NEW RECORDING ARTIST DECISIONS

This is the last New Recordings funding round for the 2008/2009 funding year. This funding year, like last year, we had the budget to do 20 New Recording projects at $10,000 each – $5,000 to record a radio single and an additional $5,000 for a music video to support the release of the song to radio. That means that we are looking for, on average, just five projects in each of the four funding rounds in this funding year.

In this last funding round for the year, we got the biggest haul of applications ever … ! We got 327 applications. To put that into context, in the last New Recordings funding round in February, we got 183 applications.

The first shortlisting gave us 60 songs, the second reduced the number of contenders to 33 and the third gave us the final ten. Each of the final ten was then invited to give us more information about the project and their plans for the song.

The projects with the best combination of commercial radio airplay potential and a convincing plan for the recording, release and promotion of the song get the $10,000 new artist funding package. In this last funding round for the 2008/2009 year, we will do the usual five projects.
